Chris and I were able to speak with John Plocic about getting in a site visit with the excavator, George Wagner and Jen Gould from Gould Well Drilling. John had just gotten his power back after the bad storm last Thursday-Friday and was still without a phone landline. He said be would try to get in a site visit with everyone within the next couple of weeks to discuss the foundation piers, driveway, and well placement/containment pit.
We also discussed working with Kingdom Design, getting a new estimate for the wrap-around porch and getting measurements for windows and doors(maximum sizes). John was super nice and everything worked out well. We are super lucky to have him on the project.

Maurice Bedor did not disappoint with his promise to help us find someone who could help us build a cabin for a reasonable price. He introduced us to John Plocic, of Bean Pond Timbers in Wheelock, Vermont. John has a sawmill and has built all of the buildings on his property and also helped Maurice build his cabin. Maurice took us over to John's property so we could see our work. He had a beautiful timber frame barn and home. John's plan is to build a timber frame shell 16x24 cabin with a 10x24 porch on the front. The cabin will be built on the rock outcropping on the property and be used for the next ten years until we can build a retirement home. The cabin would be something that would stand the test of time and could be passed on to our kids and grandkids. It would be our legacy. John asked us to draw out the initial plans on grid paper and send them to him. After doing a lot of research on Pinterest and the Internet this is what we designed. John sent us the cut list and initial plan for the timber frame of the cabin. We discussed placement of the sliders and windows and asked if we could set in a more symmetrical design. He said it was definitely possible. We also got to see the trees to be used for the cabin prior to them being cut. It was really cool to see how the cabin will start and where the actual timbers were on his property. The next step was for him to turn the trees into milled timbers to be used next spring/summer. We met with John to discuss all of the details of the cabin. Heating, insulation, roofing, details for the timber peg, etc. were all discussed on site. George Wagner gave us a quote for installing a driveway, digging and installing the septic system and digging holes and setting the posts for the foundation of the cabin. George and John would work together to schedule start times as soon as possible in the Spring 2020. We were super excited to have John Plocic as our timber frame builder. |
